Camp Lutherwood began in 1959 when a group of Eugene-area pastors envisioned a Bible camp for their kids; the Lutheran Layman's League of Lane County purchased 28 acres off Highway 36 near Junction City, and the property's only building at the time was a barn where campers stayed with their pastors and other adult leaders.
